Is The Stock Market A Good Place For a Beginner Investor?

By Patty Berker

The last year and a half have shown that the stock market in not a place for the weak at heart. It is important that you never invest money in stocks that you cant afford to lose. So many people had their lifes savings in stocks and now they are in real trouble.

Anyone who believes that stocks are not risky just does not understand how the market works. If you want safety, you need to be invested in government bonds or bank CDs that are guaranteed. Of course you will get a low interest rate buy your money will be safe no matter what the market or economy does. Stocks may allow you to get a higher rate of return but with that higher rate comes risk.

The stock market seems to have become more volatile in the past 10 to 15 years with the advent of day trading and the ease with which someone can get involved who doesnt really know what they are doing. In years past, the stock market was a place for investors who placed long terms bets on companies in hopes those companies would prosper and the stock price would go up. Now days, with computer trading and trading via the Internet, it seems more like a mechanism for gambling with people trading in and out of stocks daily hoping to hit a score and run. An investor in todays market needs to keep a vigilante eye on his stocks as the market and market conditions can change at any time.

The stock market will have you scratching your head if you are new to the stock investing game and trying to learn for the first time. If you watch the business shows on television they will throw around more fancy words a minute than you can ever learn it seems.

Your best bet is to get a book on the basics of stock investing and then start to learn the vocabulary and terminology. Know that this will be a long term endeavor but one that will be worth it. If you go about things slowly and keep learning from the ground up, you will soon be in a position where you will understand what is going on in the stock market. You will then start to understand what type of stock investments you are interested in and what types you will want to steer clear from. - 23222

Profit From Following Oil

By Ahmad Hassam

If you want to become a good currency trader, then you need to understand that the forex markets evolve and change with time. You will need to make a little tweak here and a little tweak there sometimes in your trading strategies in order to continue making profit. As the currency markets evolve and change, your trading strategies should also evolve and adjust to these changes in the markets.

There will be periods of low returns or losses. But once you have made the changes and adjusted your trading strategies, you will start making profits again. Dont get stuck with only one currency pair and one trading strategy. Start looking at macroeconomic events and how different currency pairs react to them.

Now, lets discuss a trading strategy that depends on following oil prices in the markets. There are many sources of oil. Some currency pairs react more strongly than other when oil prices change. Fortunately for you, oil prices trend for extended periods. When oil prices rise, they continue to rise for several months.

Similarly when oil prices decline, they tend to continue declining for several months. Some of the currencies that react strongly to oil price changes are GBP and CAD. Lets focus on USD/CAD.

United States is the major importer of Canadian oil. The value of CAD increases with increase in oil prices in relationship to US Dollar (USD). Increase in oil prices means that the pair USD/CAD should start trending downward. This is a good example of a trend trading strategy.

Do you watch CNBC daily? You should watch for times when the oil prices are rising and the exchange rate USD/CAD is decreasing. Similarly, on CNBC look for times when oil prices decline and the exchange rate USD/CAD increases.

We will use CCI, Commodity Channel Index, to trigger the trade. Watch the 14 period CCI (Commodity Channel Index) chart. It should cross above 100 and then cross back below 100. This will tell you that the buyers made a temporary upward push on the currency pair USD/CAD but were unable to turn the trend around and it is still downward. This is time to open the trade.

Enter the trade. Set a limit order of 300 pips and a stop loss order of 75 pips. Go short on USD and long on CAD. This setup gives you a risk to reward ratio of 1:4. This risk to reward is very good and it allows you to be wrong a few times but without ruining your chances of being profitable. 300 pips mean $3000 profit and 75 pips means $750 loss if the trade goes against what you anticipated. Usually such a trade will continue for a month.

You can also trade the USD/CAD currency pair in the opposite direction if the oil prices start to decline. However, prolonged downtrends in the oil prices are unlikely under rising global oil demand. This trading strategy depends on just knowing which way the oil prices are moving right now. You can take advantage of this oil price movement. Oil prices have again started to climb. It has reached above $68. Take advantage of the rising oil prices by trading USD/CAD pair as described above. - 23222

What To Expect From Share Builder?

By Anne Durrell

If you are currently buying and selling stocks online or are interested in starting you owe it to yourself to check out share builder.

Many investors are interested to Share Builder since the website offers a different way to buy stocks that is simple and it makes sense.

Share builder offers a different way than most online stock brokers, and compare with a traditional broker, this share builder is easier and much cheaper, too.

You don't have to buy a minimum number of shares at share builder; they offer stock trades of any publicly traded company for only $4 for any dollar amount you want to buy.

With share builder you can start off at any level you feel comfortable with as they don't require you a minimum investment to start.

Other online sites require you to put a minimum amount of money in your account when you open it. This means you have to save before you invest. With share builder you can start investing straight away.

Your fee will be much lower percentage of the overall cost with share builder if you are willing to buy larger amount directly since no matter how much stocks you buy, they will charge you $4 for one time transaction.

Share builder applies $4 to each different stocks, not to the total stocks you buy. So it really makes sense if you consolidate your purchases of the same stocks all together.

In other words, it would be much cheaper if you buy $100 worth of one stock each week than buying $25 each of 4 different stocks each week for a month.

You would pay $4 a week in fees instead of $16 which would mean you would have $48 more invested by the end of the month. So if you are looking for something different, give share builder a try! - 23222

Day Trading Training - What Makes The Pros So Good?

By Sam Lockwood

Day trading can be an excellent method for making a profit, if you have the stuff to do it. However, no matter how others may pitch it, it's not a smooth ride. You have to put a lot of work into it to succeed.

Day trading in commodities or stocks is, at base, a job. While it can be a highly lucrative job, it's also one that means you need some basic traits to succeed. You also need some specific habits, and they have to be so ingrained they're automatic.

Habit number one is having a good sense of time. Anyone who can't get out of bed first thing in the morning or has trouble thinking before that cup of coffee is someone who will only be made miserable by day trading. The best time to assess the way you should play the market today is right before the opening bell. That's at nine in the morning in New York Cit, or six am in California and five am in Alaska and Hawaii. You can't just be an early riser. You also have to have a great internal clock and a good scheduling system.

The second necessary habit is having good quantitative thinking skills. Working on hunches will allow you to make or lose money in day trading. You need to be able to read and understand the numbers without thinking about them if you want to make good decisions. You have to be able to convert and analyze the numbers in your head carefully, so you'll be able to tell if something is a blip or a lasting trend, and you have to be able to act accordingly.

You should know that this doesn't require you to be a mathematician. Numbers you'll need to know can be learned, even if you always hated math. There are a few numerical skills you can learn to the point of them being ingrained, once you get going in the game.

Habit number three is maintaining good observational skills, being incredibly patient, and learning to forget. This can be pretty hard, since you have to keep yourself from feeling let down when you don't catch a stock at its top, or when you lose money on a short sale that never turns up. Don't get caught up in either your wins or your losses, or you'll lose focus and money.

Dedicated research is also a must. Day trading doesn't require you to devour accounting statements like long term investing usually does, but you do need to constantly be able to deal with the flow of data and make analyses. You also have to be proactive about shares that you're buying or selling, and make snap judgments that you act on fast. The only way you'll know these judgments are the right ones are through the right research. However, don't let this desire for good research paralyze you.

Remember that a lot of the research and analysis won't need to be done by you directly. The best traders always have a number of tools at their disposal, as well as many different data services and research sources ready to access.

If you're thinking about getting into day trading, you'll also need to build up a support network. That requires dealing with a broker, as well as finding investors who will help you apply leverage to the market. You have to understand that this is work, and that this kind of work requires intelligence, focus, and a strong will.

If you've got all these skills and can develop these habits, day trading could be a great way to make a fantastic income. This is a job you can call fun honestly, and it can be pretty enriching, too. - 23222
