When you see them first, you will certainly choose a tax free fund instead of table fund due to obvious tax related reasons. But the fact is that tax free funds have lower returns than taxable funds. When you compare these 2 funds, you should look at the return on investments as well. Usually, the returns are higher in taxable funds. You can use the formula (Taxable Equivalent Yield = Tax-Free Yield / (1 - Marginal Tax Rate)) to find the difference.

There are many tax free money market funds obtainable in market today. Most of them have similar returns therefore there is not much difference between them. Is Margin The Best Way To Make Money With Stocks?

By Richard Moran

The initial cause of the Great Depression and stock collapse of October 1929 was all the stock that had been purchased on margin. When the stock prices fell many of the people who had purchased on margin could not cover the margin calls and went bust. That of course was before the financial controls imposed by the government in today's market and theoretically that situation could never happen again although many of those who lost money in the past year may disagree. You can still buy stock by putting only a portion of the cost in hard cash down with the balance being covered by your credit standing and therefore on margin.

Buying Stock Outright

Cash is still the best way to purchase any investment. Buying stock on margins will necessitate the price of the stock rising enough to not only cover your cost and fees, but enough to cover the interest charges imposed by the stock firm offering the margin purchase. Unless your crystal ball is a good one, and your stock picks take off, that is a lot of pressure for the stocks price to rise. Of course if the price falls you are still responsible for that loss plus any interest due on the original purchase price. You may owe quite a bit more than the stock is worth when you sell.

You Know It's a Sure Thing and Want 10,000 shares rather than 1,000

When you buy stocks on margin, you are requesting a loan for the money to purchase those stocks. In return for the loan from the brokerage firm, you will pay interest on that loan. The brokerage firm is virtually making money on your loan and will hold your stocks as collateral against the loan. If you do not pay the firm back, they sell the stocks. In short they have little risk involved in loaning you the money for the stocks. On the other hand, you have to see to it that the stocks you select make enough in profits to not only put money in your pocket but to pay the loan back to the brokerage firm.

The Real Magic Is Knowing What Stock To Buy

One way of ensuring you can pay back the loan on your investments is to know your stocks. You should study your stocks before making a purchase. It is important to know how they have been effected by other aspects of the market, how often they drop, how long they remain on a rise and what the average rise for them is. By studying the stocks you want to invest in, you may find that you dont need to borrow money in order to invest.

Margin/Cash - so which is the best way?

It comes down to your mindset when it comes to risk. If you will get ulcers worrying about the money you owe on margin it might be a good idea to stay out of the market all together, or buy mutual funds and let someone else worry about the return. Paying cash leaves you in a more flexible position while the margin gives you greater potential. The most important thing is to do your research and invest with your head not your heart. - 23222

The Pros/Cons Of The Dollar

By Adela Thomas

Money in the United States, a model of what gold and silver can do for a country. The goal of the US Federal Reserve is to have more money in their vaults than they have out. Thats the core-essential difference in other countries and the U.S.

The money game in the U.S. has many players with each one making their contribution to the very best economic machine in the world. Since the Americans installed their form of currency into the world, things have never been the same.

Sure the dollar can go up in value and it can go down, but make no mistake about it, the dollar is a great method of financial recourse and the world knows this. The US dollar is a bit down right now, sure it is. The stability of dollars was created first by backing every dollar by a fixed amount of gold. The dollars were a replacement of gold, and it was easier to carry and store than gold.

Then as the economy became larger, more people needed more money to exchange hands at a faster rate. The government then had to allow the dollar to be backed by silver as well so that they could print more and keep up with the economic growth. Not doing so would cause some people to hoard money, and it would slow down the velocity of money. When this happens there is deflation, and danger of things being worth less, and money being hard to find as people hoard it.

Soon the economy would go global, and this is why the government is having troubles printing enough money to keep up with the demand for dollars as the internet now allows money to exchange hands in seconds. In order for the system to keep working, money will have to change hands even faster.

There is one danger, and that is that inflation will become a problem. If there are more and more dollars being printed, while the velocity of money will still flow at a very fast pace, dollars could potentially lose their value. Even worse, as the government mismanages money, the danger is that the rest of the world no longer has the faith in the dollar. This will mean that they might no longer accept dollars, and that would result in a lot of money with no place to go. This can result in hyper-inflation like with what happened with Germany before World War 2. However, at the moment, the rest of the world has also printed lots of their currency, so the dollar remains the best bet. If you are nervous about hyper inflation, your best bet is to buy gold, silver, and non perishable food. - 23222
