Commodity ETFs

By Ahmad Hassam

If you are interested in investing in commodities than you can invest in a commodity mutual fund! Many people are not aware that commodities as an asset class has a lot of potential especially in the 21st century. It is being predicted that the 21st century belongs to the commodities.

Just buy the shares of the commodity mutual fund and let its NAV appreciate before you can sell for a capital gain. This is the simplest way for you to get involved in investing in commodities as the mutual fund portfolio management will be done by a professional manager and you have to do nothing.

ETFs started off some three decades back but became highly popular as investment vehicles in such a short time. Now, you must have heard about the Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). ETFs are really hot investments these days.

ETFs have many benefits. They trade like stocks but have the diversification advantages of a mutual fund. Now the good thing about investing in ETFs is that they give you the diversification benefits of a mutual fund with very low fees something like 0.7% as compared to 2-4% of the mutual fund. Driven by the growing demand of commodities by the investors many financial institutions are now offering Commodity ETFs.

ETFs have the added benefit of being able to trade like stocks giving you the powerful combination of diversification and liquidity. So unlike a mutual fund whose net asset value is calculated at the end of the day and the shares of mutual fund cannot be traded during the day, you can go both long or short on ETFs all the time. Something you cannot do with a mutual fund!

This diversification plus liquidity benefit makes an ETF a better investment tool as compared to the mutual fund and the stocks. Now, you can find thousands of ETFs in the market on different market sectors, stock indexes, currencies, commodities and so on.

Let's take an example of a commodity ETF. The Deutsche Bank Commodity Index Tracking Fund is listed on AMEX and tracks the Deutsche Bank Liquid Commodity Index. This index is based on a basket of six commodities: light sweet crude oil, heating oil, gold, aluminum, corn and wheat. The first Commodity ETF in US was launched by Deutsche Bank in the start of 2006. This ETF is based on the Deutsche Bank Commodity Index and as you can judge

This ETF invests directly in the commodity futures contract. Now one of the downsides of investing in this Commodity ETFs is that it can be fairly volatile as it is based on commodity futures contracts that get rolled monthly. Another downside to this Commodity ETF is that it is based on a basket of six commodities only. Now, every month a new ETF gets launched. There are a number of Commodity ETFs that track individual commodities like crude oil, gold and silver. Do your research on Commodity ETFs, you may find a good investment. - 23222

Understanding Good ETF Trading Strategies

By Patrick Deaton

Nowadays, many traders are looking to exchange traded funds and are trying to take advantage of these funds because they do, in fact, make for great investment vehicles that can actually deliver a very nice income in many cases. Knowing what makes a good ETF trading strategies, then, will be necessary in order to take advantage. It's also a good idea to know a few things about ETFs first of all.

Exchange traded funds have a lot of things going for them. Their costs are low and their tax efficiencies are very high. They are constituted somewhat like mutual funds in how they are operated by a fund manager. Normally, and ETF limits membership to authorized participants such as large institutional investors can buy large blocks of assets. Small investors usually use in ETF trading system.

Imagine corporate stocks and how they are traded or bought and sold and you will have a good idea of how exchange traded funds are also moved through the markets. Almost every exchange traded fund establishes its operations so that it can track one or several of the major market indexes. For example, many track the S&P 500. This makes it easier to follow trends and set up trading strategies.

There are a huge variety of trading strategies out there when it comes to tracking market movements and then setting up a timed strategy for getting in and out of those markets. Usually, though, all strategies tend to fall into two major categories known as technical and fundamental. Strategists who use technical methods think they can discern shapes and patterns in market movements.

For those with the ability to pick out shapes and patterns in market movements -- by analyzing a stock chart -- the possibility of good income is very real. These movements can signal upward and downward movement in markets that can be timed through technical analysis, with the correct buy and sell orders put in at the right times.

One of the most common of technical strategies that exists today is to utilize what professional and amateur traders call the "moving average cross." With it, traders look at short-term movements in the market -- or a stock or fund -- and then overlay that short-term movement on a long-term trendline. Usually, most short-term movements are from-- to 25 days in duration to create a moving average line.

Once this line is established, it can be superimposed over the short term evolution analysis in order to determine which way the stock price in the ETF will go through the moving average line after it is crossed. The bottom, or long-term trend analysis usually consists of looking at a 50-day moving average. This longer timeline tends to smooth or dampen out those short-term trends.

Employing this strategy, traders can look at trends in the long-term and develop the moving support line. Those who are skilled at this strategy can pick out the right time to buy a stock at the bottom of its upward climb or at the point when the stock has touched or lightly penetrated the 50 day average. One can also use it to sell the stock short in an effective manner. Money is usually made on the margins. - 23222

Opting For Home Refinancing Can Save Your From Foreclosure

By Jason Myers

Foreclosure is a bad dream for every house owner and since dealing with it is hard, the next best thing to do is to ensure it doesn't happen.

Needless to say, effectively planning for a new home, financially speaking, inspite of mortgage financing, is of the importance. You must save up a couple of thousands in a savings account, to ensure that all those unanticipated expenses are provided for. But for most people and all the monetary demands that are available, that is almost not an option. Therefore they are left not ready when a foreclosure forewarning is prominent.

Perhaps the good news is that there is always a viable and cheap option that you may practice to make sure that you don't become a victim of foreclosure. And that is home refinancing. By description, home refinancing is revising the mortgage repayment program so you can get them decreased, and that means your interest rates as well. It's truly the best thing to do when the risk of foreclosure becomes too big.

Mortgage refinancing will allow you to suit the mortgage payments better into your budget since they are decreased by a considerable fraction.

For a person that required this kind of closure, it's the best thing to do. But for someone who is in financial turmoil and their source of livelihood is becoming minimal owing to increased expenditure, this is a very short-term solution that may not produce the required results.

The downside of mortgage refinancing is that it undermines your credit rating and lowers your credibility, a thing that may come back to bite in the event you look for another loan after you have cleared your mortgage. But that should not be something to hold you back, since seeing the bigger picture, deciding whether to refinance may rescue you from the chance of foreclosure hence you need to know your priorities wisely. - 23222
